A men's full-grain leather rucksack with buckled pockets and a 13-inch laptop compartment: a heritage-style backpack.
This backpack has that old-school outline, with a buckled flap, a drawstring top and pockets strapped down the front and side, yet it is sized and organised for the way a modern man works and travels.
It is made from thick full-grain leather in a deep, variegated brown that takes on a richer patina the more it is carried. The main compartment is roomy enough for books, a jumper or a day's travel kit, and inside sits a padded compartment with a hook-and-loop fastening for a 13-inch laptop. Three exterior buckle pockets keep a phone, tickets and a water bottle within reach. The stitching is reinforced and the hardware is stainless steel.
The top closes with a drawstring beneath a buckled flap for an extra layer of security, and the wide leather shoulder straps adjust for comfort on long days. Wear it to the office with a navy overcoat, take it on a weekend away, or pair it with a flat cap and tweed for a walk in the country. It makes a substantial gift for a son heading to university or a husband who travels often.

Leather: wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Once or twice a year, work in a little neutral leather cream, testing it first on a hidden spot. If it gets wet, blot it and let it dry naturally, away from radiators and direct sun. Full-grain leather darkens and softens with use; that patina is part of its character.
Empty the bag and stuff it lightly with paper when storing it, and keep it in a breathable dust bag rather than plastic.
Shipping. Free, tracked, to the United Kingdom and the United States. Orders are dispatched within 2–3 business days; delivery takes 6–12 business days to the UK and 8–15 to the US. Duties and import taxes are included in the price — nothing to pay on delivery.
Returns. 30 days from delivery, on any item that is unworn and unused, with tags, in its original packaging. Email support@oldtradinghouse.com with your order number to start one. Refunds go back to your original payment method within 10 business days of approval.

In 1924, our grandfather, Albert Whitley, opened a small outfitter’s shop in Yorkshire. Our father, Henry, carried it forward. Today, we continue the family business with the same belief: good materials, useful things and pieces made to be worn for years.
