A men's pre-tied check bow tie in a bold block check: a country-style bow tie for weddings, races and winter dinners.
This one uses a large, overlapping block check with a fine diagonal texture, woven in polyester and made up as a classic butterfly bow measuring around 12 cm wide and 6 cm deep.
Seven colourways are offered, each with its own temperament: an autumnal orange and brown, a cool blue, red with grey and white, a fresh green and teal, a monochrome grey, a tan with sky blue, and a brown with soft blue. The stronger shades suit a summer wedding or a garden party with a linen or cotton suit; the greys and browns are easier companions for a tweed jacket and a flat cap in the cooler months.
It comes ready-tied on an adjustable band with a hook fastening, so there is nothing to learn and it can be put on in a few seconds, which makes it a good choice for groomsmen who are not used to wearing a bow tie. It is also a light-hearted gift for a father, brother or friend who likes a little colour, and it brightens a navy blazer at the races or a long summer lunch.
Fasten the clasp at the back of the collar and slide the adjuster until the band sits flat under the collar without pinching.
A bow tie looks best when it is no wider than the outer corners of your eyes and sits level over the top button. Oversized bows suit a broader face and a spread collar.
Spot clean with cool water and a clean cloth. Wool and velvet-finish bow ties are best dry cleaned.
Store flat or on a tie rack, away from direct sun, so the bow keeps its shape.

Our pieces, out in the real world.
In 1924, our grandfather, Albert Whitley, opened a small outfitter’s shop in Yorkshire. Our father, Henry, carried it forward. Today, we continue the family business with the same belief: good materials, useful things and pieces made to be worn for years.
The counter may now be a website, but the standard remains much the same. Old craft. Modern wear.
It is best not to. Braces do the belt’s job and look tidiest on their own; wearing both adds bulk at the waist. Hook braces clip onto the belt loops themselves, so leave the belt off.
Yes. Braces, bow ties and ties in matching colours make simple groomsmen sets. If you need several identical pieces, write to us before ordering and we will confirm availability.
Ties: once knotted, the tip should just touch your belt buckle; match the blade width to your lapels. Bow ties: most are pre-tied on an adjustable strap that fits most collars. Braces: clip-on styles grip the waistband of any trousers, while hook styles clip onto your belt loops, which suits jeans, chinos and cords. Dimensions are listed under Technical details.
Untie a tie by reversing the knot, then hang it or roll it loosely; knitted ties are best rolled. Store bow ties flat. Coil braces loosely rather than hanging them, so the elastic keeps its spring.
