Why a flat cap
A good cap does two jobs. It finishes a jacket at a wedding, and it keeps the rain off on a dog walk. We only sell the ones that do both.
In 1924, our grandfather, Albert Whitley, opened a small outfitter’s shop in Yorkshire. Our father, Henry, carried it forward. Today, we continue the family business with the same belief: good materials, useful things and pieces made to be worn for years.
The counter may now be a website, but the standard remains much the same. Old craft. Modern wear.
Shipping is free on every order, with no minimum, to the United Kingdom and the United States. Orders are processed within 2–3 business days; delivery takes 6–12 business days to the UK and 8–15 to the US. Duties and import taxes are included in the price you pay.
Yes. You have 30 days from delivery to return any cap that is unworn, with tags, in its original packaging. Email us at support@oldtradinghouse.com with your order number and we will send return instructions. Full details are in our Return & Refund Policy.
Wrap a soft tape around your head where a cap naturally sits, just above the ears, and read the number in centimetres. Our Sizing Guide converts that to UK and US hat sizes. If you are between sizes, write to us before ordering.
Wool and tweed: brush after wear, spot clean, never machine wash. Denim and cotton: hand wash cool, reshape, dry flat. Leather and suede: a barely damp cloth and a leather balm once or twice a year. Our Care Essentials page covers every cloth we sell.
