A men's layered velvet-finish bow tie with a contrasting knot: made for evening wear, Christmas parties and New Year's Eve.
This bow tie has a soft velvet finish on wide, layered wings that end in gentle points, and each one is gathered at the centre by a smooth, sheen-finished knot that contrasts quietly with the pile around it. The result has depth and texture without any need for pattern.
Four colours are offered. Black is the natural choice for a dinner jacket and black-tie events; burgundy and navy suit a velvet smoking jacket, a dark lounge suit or a winter wedding; and camel brings a warmer, country note that sits well with tweed and brown tailoring. The tie fastens on an adjustable band with a metal clip, so it sits level at the collar and can be set to the right length once and left there.
Made of 100% polyester, it should be treated as a dress accessory rather than an everyday tie: do not wash, bleach, tumble dry, iron or dry clean it, and store it flat in a drawer or box between occasions. For a groom, a best man or a father of the bride, it is a considered finishing touch, and as a gift for the festive season it pairs naturally with a crisp white dress shirt.
Fasten the clasp at the back of the collar and slide the adjuster until the band sits flat under the collar without pinching.
A bow tie looks best when it is no wider than the outer corners of your eyes and sits level over the top button. Oversized bows suit a broader face and a spread collar.
Spot clean with cool water and a clean cloth. Wool and velvet-finish bow ties are best dry cleaned.
Store flat or on a tie rack, away from direct sun, so the bow keeps its shape.

Our pieces, out in the real world.
In 1924, our grandfather, Albert Whitley, opened a small outfitter’s shop in Yorkshire. Our father, Henry, carried it forward. Today, we continue the family business with the same belief: good materials, useful things and pieces made to be worn for years.
The counter may now be a website, but the standard remains much the same. Old craft. Modern wear.
It is best not to. Braces do the belt’s job and look tidiest on their own; wearing both adds bulk at the waist. Hook braces clip onto the belt loops themselves, so leave the belt off.
Yes. Braces, bow ties and ties in matching colours make simple groomsmen sets. If you need several identical pieces, write to us before ordering and we will confirm availability.
Ties: once knotted, the tip should just touch your belt buckle; match the blade width to your lapels. Bow ties: most are pre-tied on an adjustable strap that fits most collars. Braces: clip-on styles grip the waistband of any trousers, while hook styles clip onto your belt loops, which suits jeans, chinos and cords. Dimensions are listed under Technical details.
Untie a tie by reversing the knot, then hang it or roll it loosely; knitted ties are best rolled. Store bow ties flat. Coil braces loosely rather than hanging them, so the elastic keeps its spring.
