Wide men's six-clip braces, or suspenders, for a secure hold on heavier trousers: a classic look for winter tweeds and weddings.
The straps meet at a dark brown leather-look patch, and the silver-tone clips are mounted on brown tabs with stud fastenings, giving a sturdy, traditional finish that suits both work and weekend dress. It is a hard-wearing design that suits daily use.
The webbing is a blend of 70% polyester and 30% viscose with a medium stretch, adjusted for length with metal sliders. By the supplier's measurements the straps are approximately 3.5 cm wide and 115 cm long. Six-clip braces are particularly useful with high-waisted or heavier cloth trousers, where they help keep the waistband level all day. Do not wash, bleach, tumble dry, iron or dry clean.
There are nine designs: dark blue twill, brown, navy, black, a navy and beige check, a small diamond pattern, wine red, grey and khaki. The check and diamond designs add a little character beneath a jacket, while the plain colours suit weddings and formal wear. Pair the brown or khaki with a tweed flat cap for a country look. A good gift for the man who wears braces every day. Every design uses the same hardware.
Clip-on braces grip the waistband directly and work with almost any trousers you already own. Hook braces clip onto your belt loops, so they suit jeans, chinos and cords. Technical details states which fastening each pair uses.
Set the sliders so your trousers sit at your natural waist and the back of the braces rests between the shoulder blades. Wear them without a belt.
Elastic webbing: spot clean, or hand wash cool and dry flat away from heat. Do not iron the elastic.
Leather and faux leather: wipe with a barely damp cloth and let it dry naturally.
Store them loosely coiled rather than hanging, so the elastic keeps its spring.

Our pieces, out in the real world.
In 1924, our grandfather, Albert Whitley, opened a small outfitter’s shop in Yorkshire. Our father, Henry, carried it forward. Today, we continue the family business with the same belief: good materials, useful things and pieces made to be worn for years.
The counter may now be a website, but the standard remains much the same. Old craft. Modern wear.
It is best not to. Braces do the belt’s job and look tidiest on their own; wearing both adds bulk at the waist. Hook braces clip onto the belt loops themselves, so leave the belt off.
Yes. Braces, bow ties and ties in matching colours make simple groomsmen sets. If you need several identical pieces, write to us before ordering and we will confirm availability.
Ties: once knotted, the tip should just touch your belt buckle; match the blade width to your lapels. Bow ties: most are pre-tied on an adjustable strap that fits most collars. Braces: clip-on styles grip the waistband of any trousers, while hook styles clip onto your belt loops, which suits jeans, chinos and cords. Dimensions are listed under Technical details.
Untie a tie by reversing the knot, then hang it or roll it loosely; knitted ties are best rolled. Store bow ties flat. Coil braces loosely rather than hanging them, so the elastic keeps its spring.
