A men's slim grey check tie in a fine glen-style pattern: a versatile work tie for the office, weddings and Christmas parties.
This one has a soft, light grey ground crossed with a fine dark and white check in the manner of a traditional glen check, so it reads as a quiet pattern from a distance and shows its detail only up close. It is cut slim, around 6 cm at its widest and 145 cm long, which gives a neat, modern knot that suits narrow lapels and a slim shirt collar.
Woven in 100% polyester, it has a slightly matt, textured surface that sits well with flannel, tweed and heavier cotton shirts, and looks particularly good against white, pale blue or a soft pink. With a navy blazer and grey trousers it makes a dependable office outfit; with a tweed jacket and a flat cap it carries naturally into a weekend in the country.
It is a sensible gift for a son starting his first job, or for a husband who wants a little more texture in his tie drawer than the usual plain ties and stripes. Care is simple: hand wash gently or have it professionally dry cleaned, and hang it or roll it loosely between wears so the fabric can relax. It is offered in the light grey colourway only.
Once knotted, the tip should just touch the top of your belt buckle. Taller men, or anyone who prefers a larger knot such as a Windsor, will use more of the length.
Match the blade width to your lapels: slimmer ties with narrow lapels, broader ties with classic tailoring. Knitted ties sit best in a simple four-in-hand knot.
Untie by reversing the knot rather than pulling the narrow end through, then hang the tie or roll it loosely so creases fall out overnight.
Spot clean or dry clean; never machine wash. Knitted ties are best rolled rather than hung, so they keep their length.

Our pieces, out in the real world.
In 1924, our grandfather, Albert Whitley, opened a small outfitter’s shop in Yorkshire. Our father, Henry, carried it forward. Today, we continue the family business with the same belief: good materials, useful things and pieces made to be worn for years.
The counter may now be a website, but the standard remains much the same. Old craft. Modern wear.
It is best not to. Braces do the belt’s job and look tidiest on their own; wearing both adds bulk at the waist. Hook braces clip onto the belt loops themselves, so leave the belt off.
Yes. Braces, bow ties and ties in matching colours make simple groomsmen sets. If you need several identical pieces, write to us before ordering and we will confirm availability.
Ties: once knotted, the tip should just touch your belt buckle; match the blade width to your lapels. Bow ties: most are pre-tied on an adjustable strap that fits most collars. Braces: clip-on styles grip the waistband of any trousers, while hook styles clip onto your belt loops, which suits jeans, chinos and cords. Dimensions are listed under Technical details.
Untie a tie by reversing the knot, then hang it or roll it loosely; knitted ties are best rolled. Store bow ties flat. Coil braces loosely rather than hanging them, so the elastic keeps its spring.
